Artist Statement
As an oil artist living above the harbor in Olympia, Washington, I strive to develop my own style of what I call, "Contemporary Folk Art Expressionism." My process always starts with a sense of folk art in every piece. After that groundwork is set, I then add elements of expressionism which usually takes on an Americana narrative leading to a lonesome guitar player, a farmer working the field, a fisherman, or a boat in the harbor. I usually don't know the final destination, I just let that happen on its own. That being said, I strive to create something new, but with an obvious appreciation of the past.
Artist Bio
Jason Bennett (b. 1969, Los Angeles) is a painter and singer-songwriter working across oil and acoustic music. His paintings fuse contemporary folk art with expressionism - ragged textures, muted tones, narrative depth. Influenced by Vincent van Gogh, Gabriele Munter, and Bob Dylan, Bennett has forged a distinctive visual language that honors tradition while staying firmly contemporary.
